How do I go region-free?
CH-DVD 300
1. Switch player on with no disc in the tray.
2. Close tray.
3. Press Menu, 1, 9.
4. A menu should appear with the region option.
5. Press enter and enter the region you want.
6. Press open/close tray putton and put in movie.
CH-DVD 402
1. Press the Setup button on the remote control.
2. Using the remote control, key in the following: 1, 3, 6, 9.
3. Press the Left button on the remote control three times.
4. Press the Right button on the remote control.
5. Select the new Version option from the menu.
6. You will now be able to change the value to 1 for Region 1, 2 for Region 2, and so on, or 0 for multi-region playback. Reports are that it also plays RCE DVDs in region free mode.
CH-DVD 500
1. Open the player's tray.
2. Press STOP on the remote control.
3. Press 1, 9, 9, 9 on the remote control.
4. A new menu should appear.
5. Choose ALL in the region code menu.
6. Turn the player off by using the remote control.
Newer CH DVD-500 S/W or UK CH DVD-505
1. Open the player's tray
2. Press STOP on the remote control.
3. Enter 3, 3, 5, 8 on the remote control.
4. Press fast forward button on remote for region free setting
CH-LDV-702 or CH-LDV-712 (portable)
1. Open the player's tray.
2. Press STOP on the remote control.
3. Press 1, 9, 9, 9 on the remote control.
4. Select a region code (Region 0 is Region All)
Region 1 - USA/Canada
Region 2 - Europe/Japan
Region 3 - Taiwan/Southwest Asia
Region 4 - South America/ Australia
Region 5 - Africa
Region 6 - China
How do I turn off Macrovision? (CH DVD-500 ONLY! - THERE'S NO KNOWN SOLUTION FOR THE CH DVD-402!)
1. Start Playing
2. Press stop
3. goto setup then video
4. press pal,ntsc,pal *OR* switch from composite to s-video and then back.
5. exit menu
Macrovision is now disabled, until the disc is ejected. Sometimes, a title change will also turn macrovision back on.
Disabling Macrovision allows you to use your VCR as an RF modulator to play DVDs on TVs that only have an antenna input.
Can I get PAL to NTSC conversion?
All models seem to do PAL to NTSC conversion, but not all preserve the aspect ratio. Reports are that the CH-402 and CH-500 preserve aspect ratio while the CH-300 does not. This is probably a function of the video chipset. Can someone tell me which video processor is used in each unit? That would be a clue.
I have video distortion at top of screen!
This is a known incompatability (impedance match) with some TVs. Return unit to depot for a warrantly repair, see:
